Whale of a slide

I just finished my second assignment for Marina Megafauna: Introduction to Marine Science and Conservation (an 8 week course run through Duke University and Coursera), and between writing about dugongs and getting distracted by videos of dolphins (saving dogs, seals and humans; being saved in turn; recognising themselves in mirrors; “asking” divers for assistance) I came across this. The 2 minute video shows bottlenose dolphins and humpback whales displaying some extraordinary interspecies behaviour.

It’s also worth mentioning here that one of the greatest animal rights successes of 2013 involved the government of India declaring cetaceans (dolphins, whales and porpoises) non-human persons and granting them unprecedented protection. Now it’s up to the rest of the world to catch up!
